When is the best time to bring your child for an Orthodontic Evaluation?

- September 1, 2025

The best time for a child to have their first orthodontic evaluation at Impressions Orthodontics is:
  • By age 7, according to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
Why age 7?

At this age:
  • Children usually have a mix of baby and permanent teeth.
  • Orthodontists can spot early problems with jaw growth, bite alignment, or spacing.
  • Early detection allows for intervention at the right time — sometimes preventing more serious issues later.
Common early issues to check for:
  • Crossbite
  • Underbite / overbite
  • Crowding or spacing
  • Thumb sucking or tongue thrusting habits
  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Mouth breathing
What happens at the first visit?
  • It’s usually a consultation(not treatment).
  • Nizam may take X-rays, photos, and a scan or impression.
  • We’ll check jaw alignment, tooth position, and growth patterns.
What if everything looks fine?

Great! Dr. Nizam may just monitor your child yearly until the right time for treatment — often around ages 10–14, when most adult teeth are in.
